I have a front R&P for my D60 that is made my Precision Gear. The ring gear is stamped 60D 513 R and the pinion gear is stamped 60D 513 P.
This is a used set that was installed but never run. The set-up paint is still on them.
I am in the process of trying to order a carrier for this r&p, but wanted to verify if it was a standard or thick cut gear. I called PG, but the tech support guy wasn't very helpful. I did find some info on their site that helps and tells me to use a 4.10 and numerically lower carrier with the 60D 513 R, but the "P" on the pinion has me stumped. Their site says that the P stands for Pro Gear series and the footnote for the Pro series reads:
"Pro Gear sets are manufactured from high nickel content SAE 9310 steel for increased strength and resistance to shock loads. Additionally, they are heat treated to be softer to absorb the high shock loads in drag racing applications only. Using these gears in street applications will result in severe premature gear wear and eventual gear failure."
This is for the front HP D60 that will have a locker, but I don't want to have to go back into this front end once I'm done. Am I asking for trouble using this r&p or will it be ok for what I'm using it for - rock crawling and some street use (but it's the front so the only time it will be engaged is off-road).
Thanks for the help in advance!
