Okay, after a long weekend of doing research, cut-n-pasting, Excel, Word, and Dreamweaver, i have a PRELIMINARY comparison chart for transfer cases.

Mind you it is still in the eraly stages. Much more cleaning up needs to be done.

Right now, there is just a chart. I plan on using the data in the chart and doing more detailed writeups on certain 'cases. Kinda like Jon's transmission article.

anyhoo, here it is:

looks good may be a lot more work but an upgrades section to each could be handy also. I have 1 input for your Dana 20 section my 73 owners manual and a 76 ford truck shop manual list SAE 50 oil for the T-case the 73 owners manual also says to use SAE 30 below 10 degs F

well i started to test the waters as far as upgrades go in the "Input Details" column, since each case model comes in many varaitions and combinations of output modes - making for a vast number of possible combinations. for instance, take the following quote:

"From 1978 though 1996 the 3 most common part-time transfer cases Ford used were the NP205, NP208, and BW1356. They all use the same circular 6-bolt mounting pattern. They also all have the same 31-spline input shaft. This means that all three are ALMOST interchangeable. See Masse article in bibliography for more info."

the main difference is that the NP205 has a notch made in the adapter for the linkage. that's it in a nutshell. but the big thing is that this guy Masse has done the swap, so i'll probably refer people to outside sources, like his. i mean, why write it again if he already has, right?

i think no matter how detailed the article gets, though, the main caveat is going to be "Do your research first" because there are so many variations that the margin for error is gonna be pretty huge, even with this type of tech article.
