Proper Order for Welding Body Parts

I have never had the pleasure of welding in new body panels before so I was wondering if anyone had some tips in what order the panels needed to be replaced to get proper body lines. At this point I have to replace the floors, the door posts, rocker panels, cowl assembly, and some of the inner fender panels... yeah... tons of stuff. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Zobo,

I am considering doing panel replacement, although hopefully not quite as extensive as yours.

I will be following your thread... I'm glad you asked the question.

i would repair cowl and kick plates then do posts and rockers and finish with floors last. Proper bracing will be required. with good bracing more can be cut out at one time. Take lots of measurements and write them down with pictures.

Accurate measurements are only good if everything is currently in line. The problem I had was that everything was so out of whack that, had I gone by the measurements of the body panels as they stood on the frame, it would have completely screwed up my plans. I think you will find, that once you start removing things, the rust will be more prominent than you first thought. It happens to all of us.

4lofun has it right. Pans last.
