I've always contemplated hooking up 110V to the body, (just the hot leg) if somone touches it, ZAP!. Although I decided against it for the saftey of no-thieves, what if a kid walks by and brushes against it:-[ . Maybe a cattle fence zapper would do better? Too afraid of the result, just like shooting someone in my house, criminals have too much protection under the law.

i have seen some interesting things out of Germany! Some under car flame throwers, stuff to shock them like the post I copied would it be that hard too take the cattle fence zapper and make it work only on say the door handle ?

what have you guys, girls done too keep pep out ?

the hood

gas tank

and out of the cab

This works for me, but it requires a little attention, food, and water.
As for the cattle zapper, unless you insulated the door handle from every thing else it wouldn't work. My neighbor growing up would hook a fence charger up to his truck to keep dogs from pissing on his wheels. Just light up the whole truck, you can use a 12v system to run off the battery you will need to have wire touching the ground then just figure out how to shut it off without a zap.

I HATE UPSTATE NY
if you do anything to hurt a thief you are asking for trouble. German (and S African laws [flamethrowers] are much different than here)

Locking gas cap, remote locking hood latch, upgrade wing window locks, passive alarm with starter disable are you best bets.

No one will break is if there is nothing valuable in the truck!

if they want in they will get in regardless of security

scsm76,

Having a guard dog is awesome, but your dogs looks too friendly to me, considering it is a lab (man's best friend) ;D lol, jk. If I left my dog in my Bronco, she would more likely lick them, rather than attack them. Great picture of your dog!

A buddy in college put numerous fish hooks in his stereo wiring, and yes a thief attempted a stereo heist, and it was obvious the thief experienced severe pain judging by the blood.

As far as barbaric, I don't know, in the old days they chopped off the hands of thieves.

A-10 warthog usually keeps the trash away from your bronco. I have the Stockton ghetto version. BI

On a more reasonable note.... there are 3 things that I am planning to do to my rigs as I build it to prevent theft. One is a removable steering wheel like a racecar has, another is a hidden solenoid kill switch and the last is going to be a shifter locking mechanism that is similar to the "club" that is used on the steering wheel. As far as the hood is concerned I am working on an inverted hood pin system to go along with the standard hood latch. It has been proven that visual deterants make your vehicle look to a theif like too much work. They way I see it is if a theif see a truck with no steering wheel, a locked tranny shifter, and no spark to the key switch he is likely to move on to an easier target. Thus leaving my rig alone!!!

She has a real mean bark, to bad her tail is wagging the whole time! If it is a real bad neighbor hood I can team her up with my girlfriends pug!
When it gets real bad the lab usually protects the pug as the first picture shows.

I've found that leaving it in an undrivable state, in pieces strewn across the garage. No, it's not going anywhere anytime soon :(

A friend of mine has the removable steering wheel, and a cap that covers the column and needs special key to remove both (like a vending machine key).
Hes never had a problem.

note to self: need to find out where he got it.

I like the removable steering wheel idea, and the kill switch. I also like the remote hood latch. You have to be carefull with a locking hood. There are times when you want to get the hood open fast. (fire) But I dont see a way to stop someone from going thru the insides. Keep your stuff in a locked box and hope for the best. Also Lojack is a great idea. You might get it back this way.

i have heard roomers’ that the low jack will not work if the batt is disconnected any one know about this ? I saw a 69 with a pull handle with a lock on it for the hood was a nice setup I am not sure how hard that would be to put something like this in but it would make it easy to get into the hood in a hurry

I made mine ugly, and befriended all the neighborhood 'tough guys'.

Nobody messes with mine. Between the dents, scratches, flat tires and the way I let it sit, nobody messes with it. I 'lost' my keys for a few days. Lo and behold, I'd forgotten them in the ignition, with the windows down. ;D

I talk to the kids in the area, share a cold drink with them now and then, get the neighborhood news, it works out. When they need a bike tire fixed, or their car is running funny, I'll lend them a hand.

Now it sits in the barn at my folks' place. I just hope that mice don't eat my wiring too much.
