Quarter Panel Problems

I purchased a upper and lower quarter panel, a tailgate post, and a tailight post from JBG and am trying to assemble them. My current problem is with the seam between the lower quarter and the tail-light panel. I have chosen to go with a welded seam, because I think they look much better.

I am having a problem getting a smooth line between the lower quarter and the tail-light post. I am having to use a lot of filler to smooth it out. Is this typical. Is there a better way. I started out using bondo to smooth it out, but I think I may remove it and use duraglass if there is nothing else I can do.
