The Lee AN fitting has the 'correct' offset and o-ring surface to seal in the P3 power steering pump. Yes other's have done it with varying success, but the adapter is cheap enough to ensure a good seal.

As far as the hoses go, I bought all of my stuff at an industrial machine supply store. They had all of the fittings and hose so that I could make my own lines, and the fittings are all reusable if I ever have to rebuild the hose. I used 2500 PSI hose and fittings, and 'maybe' spent $75 to plumb my power steering and my hydroboost. All you need to know is the fitting size and angle you want, and how many feet of hose you want.
