I’m installing all of the bearings, seals, and u joints that I can to expedite reassembly when I get my Dana 44 back from being re geared.

My question is; what is the orientation of the plastic seal that goes between the yoke and spindle?

Your second picture is right if the plastic or brass thrust washer has the bevel towards the back radius of the stub shaft.

Don't forget to ask the person who installs your carrier to hand you your old inner axle seals.

New shafts should get new seals. They are often overlooked. Also make sure that someone runs a bottle brush down the tubes when the seals are out. You would be surprised how much gunk can accumulate over 50 years...

Thank you. Yes, the bevel is facing inward.

Thank you, I will. He is supposed to replace everything but the paint.

Too late, spindle bearings are in.

I had considered the nylon bushings. It was my understanding though, and I may have misread like I do a lot, that they weren't good for much high speed driving such as running around with the hubs locked in like people do in the winter. When these bearings go out, I may go that route but it isn't like spindle bearings is a tough job.
