I know(knew) all about the idling my ol' 7.3L , school bus sounding , diesel RIGHT up to the bumper of Mr./Mrs. having a cell phone conversation several minutes after the pump has kicked off. I guess that's one cool thing about a diesel aging , they get LOUDER.
Very little talking gets done once it gets revved to about 2500 rpm and held.

The first minute or two was usually the best as they give you "the look" while the motor was just idling , then the guys try to give you the tough guy look , and then get second thoughts after reading the "U.S. Marines" plate up front and seeing a whole lot of pissed off high-n-tight behind the wheel.
I wanted a banner across the windshield that read " FEELIN' FROGGY ? THEN LEAP ! "

Gosh , I miss that truck. :(

3 weeks ago they finally added a new station with diesel on base, it was 300 yards from my shop WoooHoo! there is only one diesel pump, WTH! everyone and their brother here drives a cummins smoke machine or a powerstroke so what gives??? Every time I go there I wait for a gasser or I see another diesel waiting. It doesn't make me that mad but it's the principle of the thing. Plus being one of 100 Marines on an army base puts me in a heightened state of agitation 24/7 anyway.

Well, this sort of fits in with the thread, in a backwards kind of way.

There's a gas station near where I work that's on a very large lot but only has two pump islands. Two double-sided pumps on each island, so there are eight pumps, all gasoline. It's near a freeway off-ramp/on-ramp and is the only station on the corner, so it tends to get pretty busy at peak times. You'll sometimes have to wait a bit to get to a pump, and there are often inconsiderate people who leave their cars at the island for extended lengths of time while they shop in the convenience store, have a "spa day" in the restroom, or whatever.

One summer day several of us were waiting while a heavily-lifted, heavily-chromed Ford F250 4x4 Crew Cab was sitting, unattended, in the worst place possible, right at the middle of the island, effectively blocking two of the pumps. It looked as though the driver had just done a bad parking job while he filled up, and was inside getting his change or buying a drink.

He finally came out, carrying a bunch of stuff he'd bought at the store, walking nonchalantly to his truck, oblivious to the fact that it was blocking access to 1/4 of the pumps at the station, and that people were waiting.

He climbed into the truck, and when it started it became clear that the truck was a diesel.

The station doesn't sell diesel.

He just parked it under the awning to be in the shade, instead of using one of the half-dozen marked parking spaces that are there for people who are customers of the store but not buying gas.

Your story fits right in. Any Home Depot stories.

I had a situation that was similar to the above one mentioned in home depot, im remolding my kitchen and had quit a bit of stuff tha anwing area was quite full and just barrely enough room for me to get in. When I pulled I got asked if I was going to park there. Because I guess I was blocking him in. He had one bag with maybe two thing, and then realized he could back out. I pulled in only after getting my stuff I spent all maybe 5 min loafing my stuff.

Got to love it.

I love Home Depot, they provide me with a nice covered parking area, right in front of the store. I park there, go inside for an hour or so to shop, sometimes I don't even buy anything. Works out great when It's raining or if it's hot outside.;D

The Fleet Farm gas station is usually cheaper than all the other stations around so it can be tough getting gas there after work. They have one diesel pump but they put it in the middle of one of the islands so they are usually waiting for a car to move because you can't fit a pickup between the other two pumps. I also see them just getting ready to pull into the pump and as someone wanting gas sees that they are diesel and then pull into the pump that just cleared.%) I don't have a diesel but I see it all the time. I'm surprised that trucks with plows just don't push the other car out of the way.

I love my 86' 6.9IDI truck, it's loud, its big, and I most people must think it is scary or soemthing as if I get close, they move. I admit I'll park at the pumps and run into the sotre, but not when it is busy and I hually ass when I'm in the store.

Some days I would love to drive my plow truck to work - even without the plow the truck is big and beat enough people give me a wide berth :D

OMG I thought this crap only happened down here in the land of all inconsiderate humans.

When I'm on a road trip and hit a busy local gas station I always gas up and pull over to a parking spot before taking a leak or getting a drink. I always pay with credit card so no going in locally. I don't expect others to be like me with the card, but it's surely inconsiderate to mosey around when others are waiting....they didn't respect you in your suit and tie because you were THE MAN! By sitting there and making you wait they got a little one back on THE MAN. Shoulda cranked up the Hank Jr. and rolled the windows down.
