I've been wondering the same thing. And I cant find any sold in their feedback profile either. I havent looked at rear bumpers in a while, but that seems a little pricey for that simple of a bumper. Maybe its just me though

I built my own, but I did notice these a while back. The price isn't really that high when you look at the materials he used.... He is mainly pitching his bumpers to those folks that need a good bumper but don't want to spend the $600+ for a welder, $200+ for a chop saw, $75-100 in materials, $35 for Argon/CO2 mix, $ for electricity to run all these..so when you look at it that way, those of us that that do have our own welder etc actually paid quite a bit for our bumpers...LOL. Now I know over time that my welder had more than paid for itself, but it takes time and a little $$ to keep it running... So $375 ready to go without any labor is not to bad....
I am not promoting these at all, just wanted to point out his reasoning is probably pretty sound.

My .02

Oh sure and I didn't mean to slam the guy or his product.
Like I said, they are a lot like what I plan to do.
I just thought for something that simple the price might be a bit high, but I haven't shopped around either.
Yeah you are right about having a lot in our bumpers if you add it all up.......
Anyway, good luck all.
Chris

looks like it uses the rockstomper.com hinge. i like the overall idea, but i wonder how much that latch will rattle.

No problem ChristinWV, I am with you.

73Stallion, I was wondering the same thing....that is why I went with this latch set up, we have them on 4 other rigs and have had no problems at all, and it will hold 2000lbs! I figured since we are on the subject and some of you said you were building you own I wanted to show you the latch.
And I also use the RockStomper.com hinge too..

where did you get the cam latch and how much was it? i'm going to use the rockstomper hinge and i want to use a cam lock, i just don't know where to get one. i'm probably going to use 2x3" square, and use a spindle with bearings and a hub for the tire mount. seen it done, that way you have an extra hub and a set of wheel bearings. it's all going to be built on top of my wild child bumper.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but just wanted to share my simple solution to the tire rack latch. I used a .5" grade 8 bolt welded on a 3/8 round bar for a T-handle. Welded a .5" plate to the back of the bumper and threaded it to accept the bolt. Also sleeved the hole going through the rack. Can't move so it definitly doesn't rattle.

yellowrouge, i like your idea. i never thought about running the bolt through the 2x3 itself. i was thinking of just puting a plate off the end of the 2x3 and into another threaded hole. question is do you have a body lift? i'm just wondering about the threaded plate interfering with the tailgate. i don't have a body lift. i'm also going to go only a little more than half way across the bumper, not full length.

Yes I have a 2" body lift which is why I went this direction. My first idea was to do the same thing just vertically through the end of the rack, which I would have made longer. I would have notched the bumper capped the opening, and welded the .5" plate over the notch.

Indian Harbour Bch,
I think that's a damn fine price for a bumper with a tire carrier. Look at the prices for the hanson bumpers, or the Protofabs, which I have. I know how much I paid for my protofab, and I'd prolly NOT do it again.... these bumpers with the tire carrier, cooler and jerry cans are just a lot of green backs.... I'd buy this guys, should I do it again... IMHO, of course...

I thought it was a good price also. Especially when you compare it to others with a tire carrier. I was just curious whY I hadn't seen it on anybody's rig before.

The latch came from MSC http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT?PARTPG=NNLMK3&PMPXNO=1780400 It is $33 and I love it, I just like the way it is adjustable and pulls it down so it does not rattle at all. I like the latch design of this one too...
The spindle did come from RockStomper.com, worth every penny and it is bullet proof when mounted in the bumper good. One we put on a Heep actually flexes the frame when it is swung out and we climb on it..LOL. I like showing my carrier off by climbing on the tire and kicking off the tail gate and letting it swing open with me setting on it.. I weigh about 180, so it should hold a 35" tire with no problem.
