The brakes on my 71 Sport project didn't work when I bought it and now I know why. There is nothing but the wheel cylinders and the backing plate under the drums. Great!

What is out there as a donor for the brakes parts, and is there a truck/car that would have the 11" drums that would fit the 71 axle flange bolt pattern?

I used backing plates and bearing flanges from a mid 70's Ford P/U with the 1/2" bolts. Then I hit the local parts store I worked at part time for 11" drums, brake shoes, hardware, springs, wheel cylinders etc.. The backing plates etc were only $20 at the wrecking yard and I think I spent about $60-$75 for the other parts, I did it that way so I don't have to worry about rear brake issues while looking down my hood at a 100' hill.. Just my two cents..

The only truck that lists the same shoe # is F100 2wd truck one year only 1967. The shoe # is 283. Don't know about backing plates. I didn't see anything in cars that had the same 283 shoe number as the Bronco and I don't think their are many big bearing rear ends in cars that are plentiful.

If you use bigger brakes from a truck (wider) you will have to change axles from what I have heard. Part of the offset for the wider shoes in the backing plates and part in the axles.??? I would have the existing backing plates welded where the shoes have worn a groove in them and then grind them smooth. Replace all the missing parts and use em.

If you are going to 31 spline axles you could use the wider shoes from 70's 1/2 ton and later Broncos. I belive are the same as 76 and 77 Bronco. My catalog only covers from 1939 to 1975.

Drums from the mall will probably cost the same as new ones from the Zone etc.

I would try the Bronco Parts wanted. Someone has probably put discs on their 66-75 Bronco and would like to get rid of the drum parts.

The only drums listed are 48-67 F100 2wd and 59-67 F100-150 1/2 ton 4wd and 61-67 P100 1/2 Panel? Parcel Delivery. Good Luck in the Mall.

I have a complete set off my 77. It's the bigger drums. I'll sell it to you if you want it.

Make me an offer..
