Rear Retractable Seat Belts

To the best of my knowledge, no one is selling a rear retractable seat belt for a stock seat. I think an 80s chevy suburban has those styles.

What have others used? I don't want non-retractables banging around in back. I frankly hate crawling into the back, but the kids hop in often. One rough ride. My teenage daughter hates sitting back there...has to fold her arms for <ahem> support.

great question. I know TBP and WH sell 3 point family style ones. I don't have a family-style cage yet - just 6 point - but either way even with family cage, would only want lap belt for quick spins around town.

Thank you - looked at similar; I think they'd flop around on the seat and cut into the hips of the kids in back, as they don't mount on the floor.

Their page reads
ATTENTION: This belt does NOT have a bolt down retractor

I saw some I loved with plastic wrapped metal at a show on a rear seat of an early bronco. No idea what it was out of, but I should have asked.

I got my front 3 points from a vendor, and when I looked at the buckle style (the female side), it matched what I had in the front already. That meant I ended up with spare 2 point retractors from the old fronts, and a pair of buckles from the new order. I put the old 2 point retractors I had from the front in the rear (mounted to the wheel wells), moved the seat back a bit to line things up, and will fabricate a middle bracket for the button pieces in the rear. Life is good!

my 3 point retractable with family cage are working out well. You mentioned kids..Much safer than just a lap belt. Nnot that wheeling around town in this is safer than the daily driver. don't want to get into that battle.

but... consider the 3 points man.

I swear this thing is like being on a boat. They pass out every time. 700 miles since finishing and enjoying every minute.

I think I know which ones you're talking about Dave. There are some with plastic wrapped "straps" so to speak that hold them up, and some with plastic wrapped "cables" for lack of a better term. I like those last ones the best. Super clean looking.

There are several members here with those, but I can't remember which vehicles they came from. In the old days we used to use Subaru Brats for lots of that stuff, along with Isuzu Troopers. But you don't see many of them in the yards anymore around here.

Hopefully someone will remember which ones I'm talking about and post up some pics.

My 3 points from summit came with the "plastic wrapped straps" that held them up a little. With the aftermarket seat i need them even longer. Got rigid extenders to get them to a workable fashion. Could do something similar with lap belts.

Just make sure you email them a pic of the tongue of your belts. I was shocked to realize that belts are not universal and have about 30 different tongue styles.

Is there a way to push the seats out more towards the sides (closer to the bars) to get a better angle on those shoulder harnesses Nick? Looks like a great setup, but the angles of the belts just don't look like they're optimal.
And we gotta' do it perfectly for the little ones after all!
Maybe if needed, some temporary (until they get older/bigger) bars to move the shoulder anchors closer to the seats and their shoulders?

Just thinking out loud. Don't know all the engineering of a good system off the top of my head. But I do know when something makes me think it's not quite perfected yet.

Thanks

Paul
