Got a kit to rebuild my 1 barrel carb ion my 66. Never rebuilt carb.

Do you guys use any kind of rtv solicone or sealant when you put them back together or just tighten down on new gaskets? Just thought Id ask before I attempted to put it all back together and did it wrong.

Do you take everything apart and soak in a gallon can of carb cleaning solution?

Any other tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing on the gaskets. Just put them in dry.

Soaking overnight in a bucket of chem dip is a good idea.

Blow out all the passages with compressed air after taking the carb out of the dip

Spray the passages out again with a can of carb cleaner with the tube on the nozzle. Then blow them out with air one more time.

x2 on cleaning the passages. Those orifices along the side of the carb are your idle jets. If they are clogged or restricted, not gonna idle. Don't over tighten screws. The mating components will warp and create gaps along the mating surfaces which will mess up your mixture and usually cause it to run lean. The one barrel carbs are super easy. Just follow the directions and it'll run great. I use the gallon can of carb cleaner made by Gunk with the basket inside to clean mine. 15 minute soak, rinse with water, put 'er together. Works great on injectors for aircraft reciprocating engines too.

Carb Rebuild

Be careful blowing out the carb after soaking in chem dip. It is real easy to force a piece of crap into a passage way, plugging tightly....Ask me how I know!! There are better carb kits around ....some are better than others...
