I am Trying to get the bronco ready for a wheelin trip to tellico in a couple weeks and was wonderin how much it would cost to have the rear factory trac-loc rebuilt so it is as tight as possible? :pNo money for detroit locker at the time but it is my ultimate solution! what should i tell the mechanic? Take it to a Ford dealership or my mechanic?
Thanks

I'd say take it to a mechanic that is known for installing gears in autos/trucks, Dugan racing is one that comes to mind in Georgia. You'll probably spend about $80 bucks on a (trac lok) rebuild kit, and the mechanic will probably charge you around $150-$200 to intall it/rebuild it! Plus if you need new bearings it will cost another $100-150 for the bearing rebuild kit. Good luck

Please, please don't take it to the dealer. Believe it or not, they probably wouldn't do any better job than an independent shop. They will probably ask you if it is the big bronco or the little bronco. Take it to a drivetrain shop that has set up hundreds of diff gears. Better yet, pull the pumpkin out and take it in to them to rebuild it. That will save you some cash right there.

There is more labor involved in rebuilding a trak loc than installing a new locker. I'm guessing the rebuild would cost you about 3/4s of what it would cost to just have a locker installed. It is false economy to save a liitle bit on parts nowand then have to pay again for the same labor next year.
