I was wondering if any of the St. Louis area owners know which junk yards in the area have the best selection of donor vehicles? I'm looking to to do the Chevy brake conversion and add power steering.

Cheers.

There's a few outside of Gerald, MO out west of you. They look like they are fairly large and have been there forever. Plus they probably don't get pillaged as regularly as the city ones would. Ask 'Spareparts', he live in Gerald.

That would be what I would have told you! Craigs was bought out by Mullins Auto from Il. They have the 2 yards in my area, the one in Beaufort is all new models and almost worthless to a Bronco owner unless he's looking for a late model motor. The one in Rosebud is where they have all the older vehicles. Since they have changed owners, I haven't been to that one. I never could stand the guy that was in charge there. Millers is in Owensville, they have a decent selection of older Fords and more Chevys. He's a Chevy guy, so he stock piles them a little longer.

Both of the Mullins yards you could call and they can check the computer for inventory. It used to be correct, since they were taken over who knows.

Millers will look on the computer and tell you if they have that vehicle, but they are still old country boys. Their fav. line is "You can come out and take a look!"

Hope this helps!

David

Just an FYI. I stopped by Owensville and Rosebud yesterday. I was looking for vehicles for the Chevy brake conversion and I had no luck. There was one salvage yard off of 70 just beyond Wright City. It was a small place, but only open on Thur - Fri. From what I could see they had some older stuff sitting around (50's-70's). Today, I'm venturing over to Speedway in IL to try my luck.

I rebuilt a 76 F100 about seven years ago and junk yard donors were easy to come by. It seems as thought that has changed. I think the years of cheap junk yard parts may be going away. Good for our Bronco values I suppose, but bad for our immediate pockets.

Cheers, RM82

I'm surprised that Millers didn't have the parts you need. I did one about a year ago on a Bronco and they had everything that I needed and more.

Pick n pull in STL and Riverside auto salvage. Both of these would probably have the Astro van that has the parts on you need! They are both cheapest you can find and you pull your own parts. They are only a 1/4 mile each other.Located on Halls Ferry Rd. And the prices are about the same. Riverside is always a little cheaper.

Chevy Astro van won't have the spindles, backing plates, hubs.......only thing it would have would be the Hydro Boost.
