Well recently at OCBR I got my rear handed to me, when I got myself stuck at a good downhill angle against a tree and I didn't have good recovery gear in my rig. It's one of those things that just don't seem necessary till you stuck between a rock and hard place or in my case a tree and a hard place.

So I have been looking at recovery equipment to buy and would prefer to buy it by the peice instead of spending 100 bucks on a pair of gloved and bag to carry everything else in or an expensive kit in other words.

So what do you carry for recovery when stuck?

Thanks Ben

In my recovery bag i have a tree saver, snatch strap, snatch block, winch control, several shackles, two pair of gloves, chain, wd-40, jumper cables(that counts as recovery right?), rags, rain suit, and electrical tape. I also carry a small folding miltary surplus shovel and Hi-lift jack. And the important thing is out front the Warn 8274.

I have the basic hand tools covered, highlift and gloves. Looking at buying a tree saver strap, couple shackles etc.

I bought a couple of snatch straps pretty cheap at a local swap meet. They were apparently used to tie ships up at docks. They get out of date or something and they have to change them out.

I suggest looking for shackles that aren't marked "made in china"

If you wait long enough I gauranty you'll find a tree saver on the trail. :)

I didn't get to talk to you this year. I was hollering your name at a guy with a truck that looked exactly like yours but he never would turn around. Figured out later it wasn't you when you both came by me down one of the access roads.

I hear you about the chinese crap, in fact I am not buying any unless they specifically say what they are rated for.

2 tire chocks
Shackles from 1/2" up to 1 1/2"
A few 'loaner' draw bars for putting shackles into other trucks' receivers
A come-along with a one-piece cast spool (not the craptastic laminated sheet-metal ones) with teeth on BOTH sides
A digging bar (GM torsion bar cut to a chisel on 1 end)
An extension cable (1/2" aircraft ~30' with double-clamped loops)
Several chains with grab hooks
A 10-ton snatch block
Axe, machete, bolt cutters, E-tool

I wonder why my gas mileage is so bad...

Good idea on the cable for use as an extension. Which brings to mind I have a bunch of left over old winch cable that would be handy.

Yeah, shipping blanket. This is one of my most used "tool" in my truck, anyone starts winching, I'm putting the blanket on the cable, anybody starts wrenching, I give'em the blanket to lay on and put their parts so the parts don't get dirt on them or lost in the grass.
