Red Hot Header Question

Got my Bronco Fired up Finally, and after running about 2 Minutes
The passanger side header at the 4 and 5 cylinders was glowing red hot, and caught my plug wire on fire. I know the timing is off a
little, but what would cause this? I am running stock explorer headers on a 5.0 with edlebrock 4v.
TIA

Timing might affect this a little, but my guess is that you're running very lean. Look at your plugs.

Lean... Check the intake for a leak on those two cylinders. Not normal for just those two to glow if it was an overall lean mixture from the carb or timing. Also check valve adjustment on those two cylinders if everything else checks out fine.

While engine is running lightly spray carb cleaner along the mating surface of the intake and the head as well as on top of the intake near the mounting bolts. Since you have the problem of those headers getting that hot I would get the engine up to running temp then shut it off for a few minutes to let the headers cool down. Then start it back up and get busy spraying before the headers get glowing red again. Your looking for a fluctuation in the Idle. If you get any fluctuation that is a sign that you have a leak or a possible cracked intake. If there is no fluctuation then its time to check the valves.
Good Luck!

Timing is off more than a little. Advance that sucker and watch those headers go out :) . The timing is so far retarded it is firing when the exhaust valve is open. Yes it could be lean but I'd bet timing. :) I don't know why but it seems like 4 and 5 are always the first to glow.

So are you saying you have seen this before? I was thinking this to be the problem. I think I am one tooth off as dizzzy is as far advanced as adjustment allows.
