Removing E-brake from backing plate

Any suggestions on how to remove retaining clamp for e-brake from the drum backing plate with out destroying the parts? Have to swap the plates out. Bummer!

Small hose clamp.

Just cut the old one off and use a clamp to hold the spring back?

I use Steve's method only with sliding a socket over the fingers.
