Replacing EGR plate with Airaid spacer???

I may be replacing or rebuilding my carb pretty soon. I have a 76 302 with most of the emission equipment removed by the PO. I'm curious if this is a good time to remove the EGR plate and replace it with some sort of spacer. The only one i can find local is the Airaid spacer. Does anyone know if i'll run into problems putting a spacer on. The intake has some sort of return hole next to two main carb holes. TO me it looks like this is where the EGR valve is actually getting the return air from.

Thanks!

That extra hole is where the EGR pulls exhaust from. It is actually the carb heat crossover passage. Don't get it sealed right and you will have an exhaust leak at the base of your carb.

There are also tuning difference between carbs set up to run EGR and non-EGR. Finding an older non-EGR carb will probably improve performance.

And the standard spiel about removing emissions devices is techincally illeagal everywhere, but only a few places check. Many vehicles have had there values completely destroyed becasue the have been de-smogged and can no longer be registered or driven on the street. And a few more that I can't think of off the top of my head this evening.
