It's with a heavy heart that I (Reid Akins), share the news of the passing of my father, Terry Akins (T-Bird).

As some of you may know, Terry had a heart transplant 17 years ago and was added back to the organ transplant list this time last year for a second heart transplant, as well as a kidney transplant.

He was admitted to the hospital in early August and finally got a new heart on Sept. 1. Due to complications, he passed away at 2:01 a.m. CT on Tuesday.

Dad loved classic Broncos and his passion continued to grow over the last several years thanks to this wonderful community. It was also a great way for him and my brother to bond. He mentioned my brother's 1977 Bronco over the years on here as well, which he helped locate, track down parts for, and restore with the help of numerous members of this forum.

Given his own investment in the hobby, my brother is taking point on all of dad's Broncos and Bronco parts. His contact information is below:

Chad Akins
Email: cakins22@aol.com
Phone: 423-400-7092

Again, I hate to share this awful news, but I take comfort knowing dad was a valued member of this community for a hobby he loved so much.

I’ve been off the site for a while, and decided to check on an event only to see this very sad news. Terry was a great guy, and I enjoyed our conversations. A true enthusiast with a kind spirit.

I had just talked to him a couple weeks ago. He was planning on coming down to our shop after the transplant and visiting. I have a wheel he wanted also.

Truly sorry to learn of Terry’s passing. Deepest sympathies to you and your family, and for the loss to the Bronco family as well. Had the pleasure of spending some time with Terry and Boone at the SuperCelebration last year. Was so looking forward to catching up with him again in Oct.

Knowing Terry, he’s already got St Peter convinced he needs a roadster and will be helping him restore it. He will be missed....

So sorry to hear, your dad was a great man and we talked 66' broncos often. I enjoyed getting to meet him at Super Celebration a few years ago. He'll be missed around here.

Really sad to hear this. Terry was a good guy and was always great to talk to at the SC events. Was interesting reading his posts on here as well. He will be missed. He has ran his race and crossed the finish line.

Sorry for your loss, sad to hear. First time I met him was in the parking lot at the Riverside Restaurant in Townsend. He showed several of us his newest 66'
Roadster, and Boone was sitting it it!!! Got to visit with him over the next few days.
Thoughts and prayers for you and the family!!!

I remember meeting Terry that night at the Riverstone. I was eating frog legs and he came in the back door and yelled “Who owns that tan Bronco out front?”. He said “Stay right there, I got something for you”. He brought me a six-pack and thanked me for posting the link that led to him buying his roadster. He was so happy that its vin number was one off from his other ‘66..... We are gonna miss him!
