RJM Harness- Bronco Vs Universal

Tried looking this up with little success... I know the universal kit allows you to move some things and gives you some longer wires, but what are the true pros & cons of using the Bronco harness over the universal and vice-verse? I noticed some differences, like oil sender on the Bronco Harness, but I am using a separate gauge.. Taping and conduit installation should really be no trouble for me...

My alternator is on the drivers side, no AC, plugging into stock harness, haven't determined solenoid, fuse and computer mounting or even harness placement, but want a clean finish.

If there is another detailed thread on this- I apologize- my search skills came up with lots of threads, but nothing conclusive- that I could find.

Thanks in advance for the help.

ive only used the bronco harness a few times...sounds like the univ. might be best for you. the bronco harness will be loomed/taped up pretty good requiring a lot of time if ya need to mod it some.

I just used this one:

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RFW-TDZ75

If you're going to move even one wire I'd buy the universal. The harness I bought is wrapped up pretty tight. The adapter plug to tap into your stock firewall harness is sweet. There's not a whole lot of extra length for the ecm 60 pin so you're kind of limited. I mounted mine behind the glove box and it was tight. I can send a picture when I get home.

I had a few minor issues with mine but overall a good harness. It's an RJM clone made by Ron Francis.

any questions just ask.

How do you deal with the connectors? I have an explorer throttle body with the 96-97 TPS. The ACT is the standard mustang type, Idle air is late style, and ECT I am not sure about.

You have a couple of choices. You can match the sensors to the wiring harness or change the connectors to match the sensors. If you have Explorer sensors then get the Explorer harness and cut the plugs off and splice them onto your harness.

I used a mustang TPS on my explorer TB. I drilled and tapped the intake for the mustang ACT. Did the same for the ECT in the explorer tubes. I had the donor explorer harness so I swapped the plug for the IAC.

The manufacturer put the wrong temp sender end on the harness so I had to splice the original one onto it.

We had to splice the Explorer TPS and one other sensor, but all of the wires were the same color so was easy as it gets.

I ended up finding a thread with most of the info- Ryan posted the detail several posts into this thread
http://classicbroncos.com/forums/showthread.php?t=195567&highlight=RJM+harness+install

My question now... I will likely go the universal route... What is required to hook into the factory harness? The Classic kit comes with the correct 3 pin connector, but I can't find one for sale on his website... Are all three pins even required going with the universal kit?

if I remember, the 3 wires in question are simply Power, Temperature and Pressure feeds.
So you can either source a plug (likely any trailer place or auto parts store) or just make your own as you go along.
After all, it's not like you're not drastically changing things. Sometimes just cutting the thing off and start fresh is as good a way as the next.

Todd, save yourself the headache and go with RJM. Come to the garage and i will explain. We can prop our feet up on a painless harness "universal" and talk. The RJM scoots and hooks. I moved/extended a few wires. It's like 80 extra bucks. Trust me. I'm mobile now. The 2 years i was down was due to screwing with "universal" stuff.

Well... Ordered mid day today after reading thru some other websites and more info. I ordered the RJM universal kit. Extended O2 lines, didn't need the oil pressure and temp pickups on the classic kit and the universal has about 12" more lead to the computer. I know who to call When I have trouble... Dave!

A word to the wise on the RJM harness... Good quality and mostly good instructions...

The template for the hole you have to cut in the dash is not the right size... You need a 1.5" hole saw and I think the centers needed to be 1.5" apart. The template was 1/4" too small. Can't redrill over 1/4"... Had to take a cutoff tool to it... A lot more work!
