A properly designed cage with hand holds works fine as long as you use lap and shoulder harnesses. Just remember, you can't fix stupid.

I designed my cage to go through the dash and for maximum head clearance in all directions so that helps keep them away from my head. I also made my grab handles “short” so they don’t stick out very far. I know anything can happen in an accident so I tried to minimize the risk as much as possible. My cage isn’t finished yet, but you get the idea.

I love what you did, and would love to design and build my own. I can draw out or describe what I would love, but I don't have the skills to build it and not sure i have the money to pay someone else to. I would love for it to go through the dash. I'd also love for seats and belts to be able to mount to it. But I think BroncoBob is the next best option. Maybe I can add on to it down the road.

BTW - I'm just down the road in Silverton

Mine is a remnant of my old cage door bars I cut out.
Figure they will make good mirror mounts also.

Hard grab handles aren't worth the risk in my opinion...IF you "test" it for head clearance sitting in your seat I'd be willing to bet that in a nasty wreck your head will be several inches closer to that brain smashing bar than when you leaned forward testing it for clearance..

Not saying the belt is stretching, I'm saying you are under tremendous G forces and every bit of slack in that belt is taken up and your body is twisting slightly with a 3 point harness...your head will be closer than you think...not worth it...never will be.

If your fabric handles rotate on your bar...ATTACH them to the bar...don't install something that can kill you because it looks cool...just saying as I've seen so many grab handles that you can hit your head on without trying...
