Rust prevention advice

I thought I would ask what any of you have used for rust prevention before I begin welding and permanently closing in certain areas like the channel in the upper cowl and inner rockers. I feel something needs to be done and also know there might be a chance of fire once I start welding. Thanks for any advice.%)

On other vehicles I have drilled a small hole AFTER welding and shot under coating in hole then plugged.
The area you are talking about is going to be tough to cover after you weld.

I use Bill hirsch miracle paint or por 15 shot thru an under coat gun, outside cause it will run out of every crack & crevice, after drying shoot thinned (50/50 with lacquer thinner) inner panel rust proofing , then once more with the inner panel rust proofing full strength.

Windshield frames, tail gates & doors if there are off the vehicle I rotate them after spraying to get a full 360 coverage.

Weld thru primer is what you want to use...NAPA carries some, ACE carries a line, 3M makes the best, but its $8-10/can. Weld thru primer is esssentially a cold-galvanized coating, but its formulated different than cold-galanizing spray and is supposed to be more "mechanically" durable.

You can still use any of the other coatings mentioned after spraying, but the weld-thru will not burn up and cause a fire like the other mentioned urethane-based products.
