User name “ Craid “ joined siteNov. of 2021. Responded to my post in search of 68 to 77 radio. Said he has one . Request pictures and price. He sends me picture poached from NE Classics of radio he says he took out of his own rig. Wants money wired to bank account. 250.00.. Finally get him on phone. Sounds like he is calling from across the world. Lots of others in background on phone. Thick eastern accent. Really pushy to get money. Definite scam. Just putting it out there. Admin please be advised.

Good catch. There was one earlier this morning that was using an existing longtime CB member's account..........be wary of anything that sounds too good to be true, free shipping for large and heavy items, sentences that are broken (not proper grammar usage). locations that don't match up and demand pay up front with Paypal friends/family or Zelle.

I got a private message on here this morning that I reported because it seemed fishy. Was from a newbie and was asking about my "sold "77" which I haven't had in years.

Here’s another pm I just received from “therock” (see below) who joined CB today. I was also contacted by Craid - very similar wording to this reply. Clicked “report” on both.

“Kjdoss has been trying to part out with his 1977 Air Cleaner Assembly.. I'll suggest that you should contact him to know if it's still available..‪ alexmusson847@gmail.com You can email him..”

Fixed - sold button was there now - just not previously > I need to mark a classified “sold”. Could do so before the upgrade - would someone let me know how to do it?

I'm on several other forums that use Xenforo. When the platform switched to what whatever they were previously using to Xenforo, the scammer activity increased 10k times. The one that I was a mod on, that's what we spent 99% of our time doing, sorting out legit new members from bots and scammers. Any new members that were from outside of the USA were immediately permabanned. Any questionable usernames, we would do a Google search on, and the majority of the time you'll find that the same username had joined a dozen forums in the last 12 hours..pottery forums to Brazilian soccer forums to Tibetan Sherpa memorabilia forums lol...random as can be and those folks got permabanned to too. Once we started doing that it cut down on the scams and scammers almost 100%. Takes 3 mods and a lot of time to make it happen though.

Yes I had a odd worded reply from a person in Florida offering to send me a hard top I am looking for. I am sure shipping and parts cost was going to be asked for up front. I cut it off before it even got started.

Also on another site I got hit up to be a KOC/KOL....some company sends you free automotive lighting stuff to use and then give a consumer report. Had Chinese script associated with it. PASS

I was about to create a new post about buyer/seller protection but this seems like a good place to start. I am interested in buying a 68 from another forum member. The bronco is across the country in Las Vegas and I can not inspect it myself. I looked into https://www.autoappraisal.com/index.htm but they have terrible Better Business Reviews and Quoted me an absurd amount to do the inspection. I kind of decided to bite the bullet and possibly buy without inspection but not sure how to do the purchase. What is the best way to not get scammed/protect each party as far as payment Wiring money seems to be the # 1 way people get scammed. Is there a legit escrow service or something like that? Do they fedex the title, then pay, then ship? How do you recommend the purchase procede?

Buy a plane ticket , fly to Las Vegas, personally insp the Bronco. PERIOD. Pay in cash (get the cash from a bank once out there). Research shipping arrangements before you fly out there. Have a plan.

Fly, insp, buy, ship, party like a new Bronco owner (Vegas style). PERIOD

Bring back the old site. We had less scammers. I’m starting to drift from this one.

I believe it will be OK, just may take some time. In the meantime just be careful. From my years of scanning ads everyday for Mustangs and now Broncos it seems many times they use gmail accounts. If you have a gmail account I'm not saying all are scam, I'm just saying many times if it sounds fishy AND they want you to reply to xyxyxy@gmail I get very suspicious!

Sounds great if my family were on board for me getting on a plane and being gone around the holidays but thats not going to happen. Whats the second best option?

What was different about the previous web site that prevented scammers, that this new version isn't? I see multiple "Scam Alerts" in the list of "similar Threads" at bottom of this page....going back 9 years at least.

Those are threads that members started to warn others about fake broncos on CL, ebay, etc for the most part.

What's going on now is new members signing up on CB for fraudulent purposes only. Just from previous experience on another Xenforo forum, something about this platform makes it easier for that crowd to find. It's constant new member vetting by the mods and it's gotten to where we only deal with long time established members. Even then, sometimes long time established members accounts get hacked.....

It is like this, to prevent any possibility of getting screwed, you have to invest the time to see it live and in person. Bronco's, these days, represent a pretty significant investment. Speaking from experience, I bought my 1st Bronco 19 yrs ago from TX, on EBay, with a CD full of pictures. That sinking feeling in your chest when it rolls off the transport that you got Fu**ed is something I have never forgotten. I had to take it almost completely apart to get it road worthy. I got over it, fixed all the errors and half ass chit. I learned a great deal in the process and did the majority of the work myself, but I spent double the money in the process. Now you take todays prices for Broncos and parts, double that or maybe x4 times that if you don't have the tools, knowledge, skills, tools, or a good buddy that has all that to help you make it right... Or you bail on the whole project and sell it at a loss? Well then how is your Family going to feel about that?
If you truely cannot make it in person to see the Bronco, then your next best thing is to find someone locally who can provide you with feedback. Say a member here, in good standing, who knows Broncos. All of us here develop a reputation on this site, good, bad, and anywhere in between... It is easy to figure out who would be qualified to help you.
Beyond those two options it is crap shoot... I wish you the best of luck with your decision.
