Who has any trick ideas for removing the three screws behind the door that hold the fender on. I'm not getting any mechanical advantage with a screw driver. I also took a screw driver bit from my drill and put it in a 1/4" socket to use the wrachet, but that didn't work either (Too small). Those have to be the biggest, stupidest screws I have seen. None of my multitudes of philips head screw drivers were big enough, so I've been using my flatheads.

time to go to sears... i have one that fits just perfectly.... you might want to try and coat it in some liquid wrench or equivalent.... i hate when things rust on and you cant get them out... the worst is when they are so rusted they break :(

I used a Vise-Grip to get the screw broken loose and then I was able to use a screwdriver to get them the rest of the way out. Only problem with this method is that the screws are round and the Vise-Grip kept popping off but I eventually got them.

i think those are a #3. if they wont come out with the proper screwdriver, vise grips or channel locks have worked for me. heat has helped too.

I use a large Craftsman Pro phillips (#4?) that has a hex shank. Place a large adjustabe wrench on the hex shank of the screwriver as you push in with your chest to keep the tip from caming out as you turn the wrench with one hand and steady the screwdriver with the other.

If that does not work, you can try an impact driver (Sears sells them as well as Lisle, Snap on (Blue Point) and others. These have removeable tips and are made so when you hit them with a hammer they will turn under impact. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't (they work better on heavy machined or casts parts that youcan really let loose on with a BFH! ;D )

Last resort before drilling out is to weld a nut onto the screw head and use a socket or impact wrench.

As Broncitis stated, IMPACT DRIVER. If you don't have one, get one, you'll need it. Just make sure you have it set to loosen, not tighten. Don't ask how I know.%)

I also used the phillips screw driver with hex head and an adjustable wrench trick but, mine still wouldn't budge. I ended up having to use heat (hand held torch) and the above trick and mine came right out (with alot of wd-40 also).

Like many have said - I used the sears pro-phillips. I like jeepsters tool suggestion also. I wouldn't use wd-40. Try PB Blaster instead (w/o the fire).

Been there - patience....

Get the biggest tip you get in the assorted sets of screw driver tips and set it up to fit in your 1/2" impact wrench and bang away. It may take a bunch of adaptors but it works. After it is out change it to hex head type bolts.

Gotta throw my vote in for the hand held impact. If you don't have one, they're dirt cheap. You can get a decent one for under 20 bucks.
They'll save your sanity, and if you have a motorcycle as well, they're indispensible.

I have to chime in here. The BEST tool for getting screws out (and I'm not kidding) is a air hammer with a screw removing tool that I got from snap-on. Yep. That thing is the nuts! A member here turned me on to it and its great. It has never failed me.

I hope that was me that did that. I swear by those things...we call the setup "screw knockers" in the USAF. I yell at the guys that use hand-held impacts on jets...they do nothing but booger up screw heads.

I know most people wont have any but slip in a little valve lapping compound into the screw head and the insert the tool, the grit will keep things from slipping, then insert the bit and bang away.

Wow, it's awesome how much feed back you've given. Thanks a lot. It just stopped raining so I'll get on it today.

I got a little side tracked working on my budy's lawn mower last night. We just ment to fix it, but we ended up turning it into a little mud buggy. We're taking it out tonight, and I'll shoot some video and post it in off topic. Keep an eye out for it.
