Seafoam?

Anyone on here ever heard of Seafoam? I'm sure I've read about it on here somwhere. I have an 86 Bronco with a 5.0 that is pretty wore out, put a pint in the engine and I swear it is running better and stronger! Just my imagination, or is there somthing to it? I've never put much stock in oil additives, but this one seemed to help.

I have used it to clean carbon from inside the engine. A salesman asked me to perform a tune up and then put it on the scope. Then after I was happy, getting it to run as good as I thought possible he unhooked a vacuum line and sucked it into the engine. It did run better after the Seafoam was added.

I've put a mist of water into the carb before to break loose carbon. Common sense says the cold water will bust off the carbon buildup. Just don't put to much, obviously.

This 5.0 I put it into is fuel injected, 165,000 miles on it, really weak. It is due for a rebuild, wore out. It has been setting for 2 years because the timing chain jumped a cog, and I just put a new timing chain and gears in it. It seemed to make a little more power than it had before, but hard to tell since it had been 2 years since I last drove it. I ran two tanks of fuel through it, then put the Seafoam in it. It now has enough power to spin both back tires (it has a locker) in the gravel. It would barely spin in the mud before. I also put 1/2 a can in the engine and 1/2 in the fuel tank. The fuel system probably needed it the worst, but it is also carrying more oil pressure on the idiot gauge now too. Sounds too good to be true, but I am a believer, for high mileage rigs anyway.

I've always wanted to try it out, I've heard good things too.

I heard that you want to run it through you gas tank and also in the vacumm for maximum cleansing, don't know if that's right or not.

I Seafoamed my 91 toyota (daily driver 31 mpg) and my 92 Cheby (tow rig) both sucked the stuff through the intake and also 1/2 can into the gas tanks. Within 2 weeks, both in-tank electric fuel pumps went out!!! Don't know if it was a coincidence, but I won't dump the stuff into another fuel tank again. :(

I've heard (and am going to do eventually) to put a splash in each sparkplug hole - let it sit for a few min and turn the motor over (don't re-install plugs). It's good for cleaning the carbon up. Cover the fenders etc. well since it will spew everywhere and then put plugs back in. There are some circle track guys around here that swear by it.

Ive done it in my 351W that sat for 10 years as part of the tune up.

Put 1/2 through the carb and the other half in the tank. - Smoked like it was on fire!

Also put a can of restore in the oil to help recondition the rings and reduce blow by.

I'll probably run another can through it in the next few months, just for maintenance.

Seafoam works great - but so does the engine oil treatment! I've got a 95' F150 that was great in 4lo, but was lacking in 2hi. 302, 4R70w, 4.56, 34" ltb's @ 5psi. Took the truck for a spin and it was ok - came back, put the engine restore in and let it idle for 5 min. Changed the oil (which came out VERY nasty). Took it out for a spin and for kicks I tried doing a brakestand - didn't work very well before, but holy crap. Truck instantly went up in smoke and made it into 3rd before I was loosing visibility and had to let off. If you have a tired engine run seafoam through the tank and engine oil teatment (cleaner) through the oil and change it. I did just the engine oil treatment to the 74' and now I've got ~75lbs of oil psi warm at idle - picked up about 10lbs of pressure.

For the vacuum line trick - which line should you use?

I just took the air cleaner off and poured it into the carb slowly.

This way I could manually control the idle so it wouldnt bog out and stall.

I used it on an old Mercury 20 hp outboard. Crank motor, spray into carb, keep running, continue spraying, keep running, spray enough to bog engine down and stall, wait overnight, crank again and run for a couple of minutes. Works great.

I've never seen it in a spray can.. not that you couldn't put it in a spray bottle.

The directions on the can said dump it in the fuel tank. It tells you how much gas you can treat with one can (pint per can, I think). I only ran 1/2 can because I put the other 1/2 in the crankcase, so I was a little weak in the fuel. After a few more tanks of gas have been run through it, I will run another can. As far as the oil pressure, my factory gauge just says high and low, no numbers to measure by. But it did come up on the guage by 1/4 of the gauge area (however much that is). I know it impressed me enough to try it in any older high mileage rig.

Yep, it's good stuff for all that gummed up parts in your carb... Let the parts soak in it and then spray them clean and reassemble...
I was very impressed when I used it for the first time...

Dumped half a can in the gas - other down the carb. Smoked like a SOB, seems to run better now.
