Selling parts in classifieds question?

When selling an item how long should you wait for an interested person to get back to you after sending them a PM? I replied to someone a couple days ago that was interested in a part I have for sale. I haven't heard anything yet and have another person interested. I don't want to screw anyone over, I was curious what others think about the wait time.
Thanks in advance!

It's yours to sell, so do what you like. Most on here in my experience tend to err on the side of being overly helpful and considerate...all good things IMO. I'd send the interested buyer a PM or email stating that you're moving forward with other buyers just so they're in the loop, but either way it's your call.

I agree this is a very considerate site. I'd PM them, and then move along. I still have a set of fenders that a guy said he come and get. I turned down a cash offer from a guy who was camping 5 miles from my house.......and I live in nowhere land.

I did it because the first guy is in the same business as mine etc. and he sounded good. Looking back, and looking at the fenders everyday in my small shop, I'd hold them till the weekend etc. and not do this again.

I try and not get wound up about it. Just communicate and move on.

Potential buyers can be like Early Bronco's. They appear pretty good at first, until you look a little closer!

If they were interested enough they should have gotten back to you. Either way Id shoot them a PM give them a deadline maybe 24 hours to respond. No response sell it to the other guy. Probably PM the other guy that he may have to wait 24hours for a answer as well, But pretty much as was said first guy with the money gets it. Snooze you loose.

I can tell you in your example, langster, that if you posted an actual PRICE in your for sale ad, it would cut down on your dropped inquiries.

For example, if someone inquired into your manual steering box for sale, sent you a PM asking about the price, and you quoted a price higher than that person wants to pay, you are not going to hear from them again. That person is looking for a deal--if priced to high, they are going to pass and move on without any further contact. If you posted that price in the ad in the first place, that person never would have inquired.

In closing, by taking OFFERS, you are basically asking to get inquiries that will go unanswered.

I subscribe to "the man with the green gets the mosheen" philosophy.

I get a kick out of these overly polite new found internet etiquette where the order of inquiry seems to set some expectation of who has the right to buy the item.

Unless you specifically agree to hold the item for somebody, I say sell it to the first person whose offer meets your sale expectations.

I try to go by first come first serve, but what it comes down to is who pays you first. If some one text or pms you give em a day or 2 but if someone offers cash take it

Ha! I subscribe to the polite theme, but did have an agreement for him to show up in 5 hrs. He drove 3.5 hrs. from Yakima to buy a quad. Glad I waited, he was a BIG M/F ;D
