Well, this has been a slow project, but we have to kick into high gear. My football team is 14-0 and we have 2 more games to make it perfect and be state champs. So it has been school, football practice, homework, and then trying to work on the Bronco a couple nights of the week.
We have pulled the motor and are about done stripping it down. It appears that it may have been rebuilt at some point in the past. We are not sure that we are going to do any block work. We are going to replace a lot of the nuts, bolts, gasket, and seals. My Dad has bought a bunch of parts. He is most excited about the shorty headers. One of the things that has bugged him for a long time is exhaust leaks. We are looking forward to get all the cleaning done and start putting it back together.
Below are some pictures we have taken along the way.
Wow Bud. The photos of you working on your old Bronc reminds me so much of myself and my Dad working on my '73 when I was exactly your age. Playing ball, practice (two a days in summer heat), studying, and trying to fit tinkering on the Bronco in there somewhere.
I bet your exhausted, giving up on hanging out with your friends sometimes to maintain this schedule. I was tired too man....but I still have my Bronco after all these years giving me a really cool/tangible connection to my youth, my Dad, my step Dad, and my late Grandfather. I hope your able to hang onto yours.
This time you are spending with the "Old Man" and the "Old Bronc" will be moments you will treasure and remember forever. Remember that when you and your Dad argue (aggressively discuss haha) over the build direction of the Bronco.
Finally, I didn't realize how lucky I was then to have my Dad, step Dad, Grandfather, Uncles, etc... to help me when I was young. Listen carefully here.....you will learn alot about life building a vehicle with your Dad whether those things have any automotive connection or not.
Sorry to go on and on....I just thing what your doing with your Dad is about the coolest damn thing in the world. Bravo young man!
