I am working on an NV3500 swap and could swear there was a trans or transfer case that you had to make sure you kept in gear first or bearings would come out when you separated them....?
I did a search but can't find it and don't recall if this may have been for a 435, a D20, a toploader or I am just imagining it.

Just checking before I pull mine

The stock 3 speed trans shift arms need to be locked in position (not sure which) to keep main shaft bearing in place. When you separate the transfer case from trans adapter there are also 13 roller bearings on the spud shaft that you have to watch for, they can fall into transfer case, but they are easy to get back with the inspection plate off.
