Hello all, I just upgraded to a 3G alternator and the dreaded belt squeal. Id like to do a serpentine belt conversion to my 69 Bronco with a 1971 302. Which year and model fords should I look for at the junk yard? Can I use the harmonic balance already on the engine?

Explorer setup is great. All the info is in the bronco tech articles. Sandman i believe is his name has all the parts. 96 to 01 explorer. All the damper info is on the article as well. I have used dampner dudes twice they know exactly what you need when u call them.

Hello Weekend,
I too recently upgraded my front accessories including aluminum pulleys and Alternator. I chased the dreaded belt squeal for months.
I ended up going with a dual v-belt pulley on the alternator (chrome) and it fixed my squeal. $20 on ebay and cost of 2 new belts. I run a Master Power alternator

This is the tech write up if you are inclined to go this way...

96-01 Ford Explorer 5.0 is the donor vehicle. With this package you get a much better alternator, better cooling and a very capable p.s. pump. its a very compact package that makes space for an electric fan if you wish as well.
You can source it yourself or send me a message and I can clean one up for you. see thread below for more info.

I recommend Sanndmann's kit! I bought it and did it myself. You do have to remove the fuel eccentric and replace the timing chain cover, which is a little bit of a pain, but not hard.... Can can use an adapter from Driven 4x4 on your harmonic balance.. A better way to go is either use the 50oz one Sanndmann gives you if you have a 50oz flywheel or send it in to get re-balanced to 280z (that's what I did)... I LOVE my new serpentine set up!! More more room, no squills from the belt and a 4g alternator that is in the best possible spot (Takes 5 minutes to change out if you ever have too)
