I started to put all the brackets on my 351w that came out of a 85 van. wow are the big complicated brackets ugly. I have an 84 302HO out a mustang. The water pump has the outlet on the same side as the 351w. will this swap work and how can I eliminat the smog pump, do I just get a smaller belt? I f I wanted to eliminate the ac compressor for now is that the same deal , just get a smaller belt? the fan is pitched the oppostite direction.

I just finished installing the Mustang serpentine setup on my 351W. Here is the thread where I described the swap.

You can eliminate the smog pump. They make an idler pulley to replace it, but this is not necessary to run the serp setup. Just use a shorter belt.

You can also eleminate the A/C using a kit from FMS available at Summit. You have to buy two kits: one is the A/C eliminator kit (Part # FMS-M-8511-A50)

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FMS-M-8511-A50&N=115&autoview=sku

and the second part is the 351W specific bracket (part # FMS-M-8511-A351)

You then use your stock power steering pump bracket. The eliminator kit will move the PS higher up, closer to where the A/C was.

Then just measure for a belt. Most part stores label the part numbers for serp belts with the last digits being the length. For example, the belt that I am using (no smog pump and with the A/C eliminator on a 351W) is a DAYCO Polycog Part # 5060775. It is 77 1/2 incles long.

You have to ensure that your water pump is a counter rotation water pump for serpentine (WP pulley moves in a CCW direction with serp and CW with V-Belt)

Hope all this helps
