Thanks all for the great info. I can’t fit it in a 5 gallon bucket. Maybe my 77 box is different than others but I think I will be better off having it double boxed with the expanding foam bags. Fingers crossed.

As a Postal employee, let me say this: pack it like you expect it to get broken so that it doesn't, marking stuff fragile doesn't help (in some circles Fragile stands for "Not Broken Yet"), make sure it doesn't leak. Also stick a ship to/shipped from address card inside the box.

I've seen too many things put in a flat rate box with no padding of any kind. As soon as it's dropped (yes dropped) from a shipping container onto a belt for sorting, it splits wide open and gets sent to "Patch & Repair". That's if all the parts stay together.
ok ok.. calm down .. don't go all postal on us!

joking brother... bet you get that all the time!

Affix a tag on or to the Box with your contact info on it..that way when they get separated you still have a chance and make sure its insured for what a replacement will cost. good luck getting any money back..

John-they called me today and mine is on the way back to me. If it comes on Friday it will be installed this weekend. I'll let you know how it works.

Wow... my wife took the box to a UPS shipping store and told them to box it up as well as they could. She said they used some major industrial box as well as packing and they said they ship heavy items all the time and it will be fine.

$80 to ship it one way. Ouch.

Judy,
Was your steering box also lose? Let me know if the rebuild helped.

John - mine was getting stuck. Go to turn the wheel, it wouldn't turn, then it would break lose and nearly turn you off the road. I have seen some that are very loose. I think the one on Gary's stocker is like that. When we follow him down the road it looks like he is drunk.

Mine is due back on Monday. Wish it was going to be here for the weekend so Roger could get it installed.

My 77 box fit in the bucket no problem.
And I thought "fragile" meant not to be thrown farther than 30 feet. Use to work at UPS.;D

Just sent mine off, it weighed 38 pounds I think, had it in a bucket I got at the hardware store which I put inside a box, it was a little over thirty bucks to ship UPS insured.

John - one correction to my earlier post - the steering was very lose, then recently began "freezing" and not wanting to turn. The box is in transit to me today.
