My guess would be to cut it off, lengthen it and put the ball back on the end.
About as much as the thickness of the spacer.

That means they have to weld it. The back and forth motion of the shifter is going to cause metal fatigue at that cut line so after a few years that weld is eventually gonna weaken and crack.

We aren't talking about a guy in the back yard trying to stick weld that stub on.

Usually, it will be a TIG weld. And if properly prepared, could be stronger than the parent metal.

proper preparation prevents piss poor performance.

Almost every part I can think of in aerospace is going to be TIG welded.

Amen brother, quality should always come first. And I totally agree, preparation is key especially when Tig welding and if that's how they're doing it I'm getting one right away

M5r2 is. Different trans and requires a different short shifter. COre shifters has one for the r2. (I have one)It does however move the base of the shifter up 3 inches so any distance gained to miss the dash by the shorter throw is lost in verticle height. This leads me to believe the same for the zf shifter mod. As mentioned though. Just bend the shifter a bit
