My XM antenna works pretty well stuck to the hood, near the vent. It's a magnet backed unit (about the size of a small box of matches) and I get pretty good reception with it that way.

That's funny... I just got an XM receiver and am gonna cancel it since I get really cruddy reception. I live in and near a pretty thick forest so I only get reception 50% of the time. Sort of a waste in my case.

i've been thinking about dumping my XM too. come to find out it's not broadcast in stereo, and they're starting to have commercials on more channels. plus the lineup is starting to suck lately...

to answer your question though, it doesn't get the greatest reception through the soft top. i had a tab on my windshield riser and i ended up moving my antenna to the hood right in front of the passenger vent. it needs a good view of the southern sky.

Tack weld a small tab off the roll cage at the rear or by the window frame, I get great reception with it in the truck.

I tried it just stuck to the top of the cage, but it rotated as I drove and lost reception. I wound up just putting it on top of the stock spare tire hinge and it worked great all weekend. Drove from Sacramento to Reno, around Reno all weekend, and back and I only lost reception twice, but I was in a really steep canyon right up next to a 300-400 foot high cliff. I think I would have lost it there no matter where it was mounted. I was really impressed the way it worked in Down Town Reno. I thought the buildings would block it for sure, but it worked great.
