Smashed rear quarter repair advice UPDATE (pics)

My newest bronco was hit while it was parked. I'll spare the despair and get right to the issue. I want to repair the damage myself since I cant find a bodyshop that will do what I want them to do for less than $3k. The impact was enough to bend a rear leaf along with:

upper quarter panel
lower quarter panel
Inner quarter wall
rear wheel housing
tailgate post
tailgate
taillight housing
bumper
rear bed

Whew! I should have some pics up by tonight. As you may have guessed this is related to my earlier post about the body manual.
So....any advice?

Finally got some pics up....watch out on a dial-up they're pretty big

Ouch!

Check out LMCTruck, www.lmctruck.com they have a catalog that has a really clear blow up of all the parts you need. I know this doesn't help with the actual work, but it is a place to start.

Before you spend money on parts you need to make sure the frame isn't bent. If it bent all that stuff and a leaf spring chances are the frame got it too. If your frame is straight and you decide to fix the truck , I might have a used rear clip. It is rust free but it is cut for flares. I have not decided weather to use the front of the clip on one of my Broncos or just use the entire tub. What kinda shape is your bronco in ? ( besides the rear damage ). If you need any measurements on the frame just ask.

My instint is to cut the bed right down the middle to just in front of the door post and weld in a used piece all in one shot. piecing in pannels will drive you crazy and a lot harder to get all of the alignment issues correct. the only body work you will have is the weld seam at the rocker pannel and the middle if the rear of the bed. Line-X the tub afterwards and you will be hard to see the weld seam unless you climb under the truck. Body shop 3,000 sounds cheap.

With that much damage , I think you would have frame damage as well as the whole rear clip being diamond shaped . The first stop is a good frame shop to have the frame checked and pulled as necessary . Also the damaged portion should be pulled as well to get out some of the pressure and buckles . If you just cut out the damaged portion first you will have nothing short of a mess trying to piece it back together . I would go for the rear clip deal if it was me .

Thanks for the advice so far....check the pics and let me know what you think. I may opt to order panels and piece it together because i need to place a large order to JBG anyway, but I am very tempted to buy a good rear clip and be done with it. Plus there is the added bonus of working on the rear end without ANYTING getting in the way

After looking at your photos I would clip the bed corner there is enough rust hidden in there by the time you cut out the bad pannels what are you going to weld to. A whole corner clip will be much sounder and you can pick the best place to make your cuts with sheet metal patches your stuck attaching to those rusty seams. I dont consider the impact that bad and I'll bet the frame hardly moved. I'd be worried about the rear axle assembly since the tire took the brunt of the force.

You can buy a complete used quarter assembly with the wheel tub, front striker, and taillight housing from Driven Auto Parts for a few hundred bucks. Then get a tailgate and a bumper and be done with it.

Like the others said, 3000 is not too bad. It looks like there is some rust work that would also get fixed in the process, not to mention previous body work done on that panel. I saw a lot of bondo from a previous job.

I don't have any more advice to give than what's been given, but I was wondering. What does the "EEE-EEEE" license plate stand for/mean? Just curious :) I would be so pissed if I came out and my truck had been hit like that by someone when it was parked. What the heck hit it?

I edited the plate in photoshop ...I was going to smear it out but it looked better cutting and pasting the E which was the first letter. I thought Imight get somone with that one ;)

The truck was hit by a Hyundai accent or some other equivalent econo-car. They were going fast enough to push it up on the curb which destroyed the tire and really chewed up the rim. This was no small curb.

I am pretty worried about the rear end so I'm planning on replacing it with a donor from my other '76. The gears were worn anyway. I just wasn't quite ready to replace them yet.

from the looks of the rust, thats been like that for awhile... Did you get a claim from insurance or anything??? Fixing that may not be worth it if the frame is toast. I say cut it all off and make it into a rock buggy
