1. I want to remove the Smog Pump on my 76 302 with A-R-A dealer installed A/C. (AC compressor is on passenger side) Previously the A/C and Smog Pump shared a Belt.
Should I install a idler / tensioner where the smog pump was?
or is there a better way of routing the pullys to eliminate the need for a idler. Any clear headon pics or a diagram would be great.
2. What have you guys been using to plug the holes in the heads? weld shut the original check valve, freeze plug, bubble gum?

Thanks for the help.

To plug the air port in the head, I used a lathe and machined a step on a round piece of steel and drilled a hole in it. I used the copper washer that came off the check valve. Bolt them in with a 5/16" bolt. I've seen the same thing done with a stack of fender washers.

I didn't add another belt tensioner I just rerouted the belt using the diagram that I just sent you. Also as far as pluggin the holes. I plugged the hole with a bolt and some washers.

Post a picture of your belt routing as it is now.
As you are dealing with an aftermarket A/C install the belt routing probably won't fall into any of the normal "stock" belt routings.

If you leave the smog tubes and check valves on the exhaust side you can use a copper pipe cap from the hardware store on the check valve. just hose clamp it on.
