Everything is stock. For some reason, The Accessory wire(Black-green, goes to post on ign switch) is hot, all the time, even when unhooked from the switch When I disconnected it from the switch, the smoking stopped. The wire, Black-Green stripe runs from switch straight to fuse box and it also has a lead that goes to the voltage reg on the back of the instrument cluster. I disconnected the wire at the Instrument cluster and hooked it up at the switch and it still smoked, so i know it is not the instrument cluster. Have to figure out why this wire is hot, even when not hooked to the switch.
Just remembered something, when I first started messing with this, I noticed a funny looking "fuse" in the heater terminal (Black- green stripe). When I pulled it, it was a 1/4 inch bolt with the head ground off being use for the fuse.

I screwed up in my last post. I said the black with green stripe is hot when disconnected from the switch. It is not hot when disconnected. When I connect it to the threaded post on the back of the ign switch is when the regulator smokes, with switch in on or accy positions. No fuses in the fuse box. Black-green wire goes from switch to fuse box.
This Bronco has no lights, heater or any accessories hooked up Checked everything I can think of.

Ok, I think I found my Problem. I think the harness/ harnesses are out of different year Broncos. unwrapped under dash harness and the black-green stripe wire goes from fuse box,to ign switch to voltage regulator on instrument cluster. The wire coming from the fuse box runs into a molded black rubber/plastic connector with a green-red stripe wire running from the same side, that runs to firewall plug and out to v.reg. Other side of connector the black/green wire runs to switch and regulator on instrument cluster. This connector is molded around the wires. My 68 shop manual shows no green/red stripe wire tying in to the Black/green stripe wires. Manual shows Green/red stripe going from voltage regulator to terminal on the ign switch that pink resistor coil wire connects to.
My connector at the ign switch has a red wire with yellow stripe tied in with the pink wire, but it runs to a light socket (Brake light in dash?). I think the underdash or maybe all of it could be a 73. This Bronco is titled as a 73 and has some 73 parts on it. Anyone have a 73 wire harness diagram?

All the harness diagrams show a green with red wire from v.regulator to ign switch. My switch has no green-red wire. The green-red wire from my regulator is factory spliced to the black-green wire that runs to the fuse box,(accessory wire) There are no splices where someone added a different year harness like i originally thought.

Can you post pics of this factory splice? Make sure there's enough light, and that the camera is far enough BACK to focus, and so we can see where it is. What wires are on the I terminal of your ig.sw.? Does Bk/Gn go to the A terminal?

Steve83 I will see about getting some pictures. Usually I don't have much trouble with wiring issues, but this ones got me baffled.
