spare parts engine run stand

I few years back I found a new in the crate 1996 explorer engine. I was going to use it on a bronco that needed rust repair. The rust repair has now tuned into a tub swap! Looking at the engine recently installed in the frame was driving me crazy and i wanted to hear it run!

I cut off a rusted damaged core support with the battery tray. After throwing together spare parts and some sheet metal I was able to make an engine run stand. I am able to run the engine and have gauges to monitor conditions. The good new is the engine runs great with no check engine lights, good oil pressure, idles great and alt is charging. It is mounted with the two front body mount bolts so I can use it on my next build. Also I am using stock mounts and I can see that a 1" body lift will allow more clearance for the radiator hoses. It is nice to have room to work on the engine with the body off and test fit hoses.

John

What radiator and hoses is that ?

Stock v belt hose...I'm running the Wildhorses PS conversion. The lower is a Ford diesel cut to fit...both will fit better once I go to a 1" lift

I see your photos and raise you a video:

:)

I did pretty much the same thing you did, had the engine in the chassis and just had to hear it run. I put together a small control panel and bolted it to the right side front shock hoop, in the video you can see I just ran it out of a gas can until I get the fuel tank installed and hard lines run.

The sound in the video changed when I uploaded it to YouTube, I don't know why it sounds so bad, I did have 2 large shop fans running to keep airflow going but didn't realize it would affect the audio so much. You can hear the exhaust leak on the driver's side header, though. :(

I recently watched a friend use an engine hoist (with chains) as an engine test stand for a smallblock Chevy. No radiator - no exhaust - no belt; just some jumper cables and a long fuel line, with the engine bouncing around on the chain. I goofed the video, and he's driving it in his S10 now.
