Looking to replace the steering column in a 1975 Bronco, 3 on the tree, manual transmission, 302 engine. The linkage in the column is frozen but shifter linkage below column seems good. What I’ve found to replace new seems only to be for automatic or manual on the floor. Have you found any for purchase and if so, where? What do you think of the rebuilt columns vs new? How easy have you found to rebuild it yourself? I’ve read some threads about rebuilding, which seems possibly to give it a try. Thanks in advance.

I rebuilt my 3 speed column about 10 years ago. I needed to find a replacement/used column as mine had a big crack on the top end and broken tabs. My Bronco is almost 100% stock with a 54 year patina so I wanted an original column. At the time I sourced a complete kit that included all the bushings, bearings, linkage clips, etc. to complete a full rebuild. I don't know if that complete kit is still available but most of the necessary parts are available individually from the early bronco vendors. The hardest thing to find was a new shift tube. I kept my old one and rebuilt it as a spare. Using the 71 service manual as I guide I replaced/rebuilt everything, adjusted the linkage, and it has worked flawlessly since then. It was a tedious but relatively easy job to complete.

There are no new three on the tree columns being built. Your options are to buy a rebuilt one to swap in or rebuild the one you have.

I can’t even remember there being a 3 on the tree in a vehicle past the ‘77 bronco. Maybe there was, but…

Tom's rebuilds them to sell, I took Clifford's to them during their event in June and they gave me a $100 in store credit.

Give them a call...
