So I want to put a stereo in my wifes bronco so we can hear it goin down the road with the top down. So heres my 2 thought. Run a set of 6.5" components in the front with a single 10" in the back, or run the components and a set of these: http://www.cadencesound.com/xs804/ in the rear running off an amp? I dont need booming bass as we only listen to metal but I want some decent bass and like the music loud! Need some ideas and pics would be nice of yalls setups.

You don't really need as much power as you think you will to overcome road noise. This is coming from a guy who runs top and doorless with 37" mud tires, 65mph down the highway all the time. I pieced my system together using stuff I had around from cars I no longer own... a decent pair of 6x9s in panels bolted to the sides right behind the front seats and a small but highly efficient 50 watt amplifier. I want to fill in the bass a little more but it works pretty well as is.

Yea but I like a nice stereo and loud. All my vehicles have systems in them. I was told to not use 6x9 and use front components only with a sub in th erear but I think with those 8's in the rear it might sound really nice and they should give out some decent bass.

Depending on how you adjust the cross over to the eights they can really talk.

Not much TBH... What's your budget? I'd piece together a big component set from parts-express.com rather than a 10" sub.

Im not spending much as she really dont care and it aint my truck anyway. Im going with polk DB6501 components. So the question is do I go with those 8's in the back with a 4 channel amp or a sub and a 3 channel amp?

I would also stay away from those 8's. website says 100 rms and your gonna pay a steep price for a 4 channel amp that puts out 100 actual rms plus a 4x100 amp will be huge like 15 by 12 inches (best guess) where are you going to hide that in the bronco. So most people will go cheap and buy a amp that says 75rms but is actual 35 rms, those speakers will sound like CRAP with anything under 75 actual rms. the website thunder said has great prices, also crutchfield is cool for helping and teaching you about car stereo

Im gonna run a RF amp and its small in size but puts out an honest 75x4 rms if not more and that will be plenty for those speakers.

fosgate amps are good, the old ones are defiantly underrated, I would say 75 watts is enough not plenty, I always built my systems to have rms match if not more, cause speakers dont get ruined by overpowering them, they distort and break from under powering them at high volume, which you stated you like to listen at. but hey give it a shot, they are not very much, How ever one decent 10 woofer is cheaper.

Your gonna find a hard time hearing bass in a bronco as you drive down the road, especially with 8s. Back in my younger days I had a 87 YJ with two 10" Fosgate Pros on a punch 150. Sounds great while stopped, but in the SC heat the amps would shut down due to heat. Once driving the air helped cool. So keep that in thought when planning your location of amps. Also, my box was huge, had to push the rear seat up so far nobody really could sit in it. Almost got a ticket cruising with people sitting on the box! I had lots of bass with hardtop on, but never sounded the same with top off. If I did it today in my bronco I would do one 12" in a shallow box behind the seat. If not a 10" in each quarter panel if it can get the proper space it needs to work correctly. Dual 8s??? Only if you are keeping the top on. I've seen one 8" woofer win car shows. The right amp and right box makes the difference. You also get what you pay for.

Nothing wrong with 8" subs but those aren't subs and wont give you the bass you want. Another thing mentioned is that your bass will be reduced without a top the only way for you to keep some of it without a top is to have a box firing down.

Like I said Im not looking for a ton of bass just a little more than "mid bass". Those 8's arent really woofers I guess but more like mid bass speakers i just think they would give more bass output due to the increased surface area vs a 6.5

If I go with a sub my plan was to mount one in a fiberglass panel in the rear quarters.

Where are you mounting the 6.5"s? A good set of components properly powered can sound pretty great on their own. A single 10" sub would add nicely to that. I'd go that way before I fooled around with those 8" drivers you posted. My .02
