Stock 74 ignition coil

Started up my 74 for the first time in 20 years after a slow restore. Has a 302 in it, started up fine and then started to run rough and stall. -- trouble shooting leads me to the ign. coil. still running points. I by-passed the ign switch ect. Will run fine and then fall apart. Timing light on any wire indicated that it looses spark. or it becomes intermittent. --dwell stays constant.---
Question? --- Does this ignition coil have a internal or external resistor? ---
I did notice that the starter solenoid has a "I" terminal. I assume this is the ignition resistor by-pass? --- Where is the external resistor if it has one?

run a jumper wire from the battery+ to the + side of the coil to see if things change. and yes it will be hot. there is no resistor on a factory set up.
are the points kinda okay?
best remedy put a set of pertronic pick up and their coil and keep looking foward.

Well new coil, still runs like dog crap. It just don't seem like this should be so tough to figure out. Simple ign, system. So I removed the points and inspected them and it looked like they are very burned. filed them down and adjusted them to match perfect. (the points were new motorcraft that were nos on ebay.) Reinstalled and it runs fine. Set timing, adust idle mixture and idle speed run through the gears (AT) and think about taking it off the jack stands to go for a ride. Ran it about 20-30 minutes. ---Then it started to run rough again untill it stalled and would hardly restart. --so I remove the points again and do the same thing. Starts and runs fine for about 5 minutes. ???? condenser??? never found one bad ever... tomorrow it will get new points, condenser cap and rotor. ---this has pissed me off to the point that I have to pin-point the source. --- will change one part and test, may even reinstall bad part to confirm my diagnosis. ---bang my head on a sharp corner !!!! --- this is suppose to be fun right?????

I say ditch the points and go electronic. A lot of great options out there...
