Can anyone tell me what I could do to convert this stock air filter (I assume its the stock) so that I don't have to run the oil bath? Is that possible?

Also, should the intake side be hooked up to anything? It has what looks like a 2" hose connection going down.

I want put this in so I can put the spacer below my carb, to hopefully stop the hot start issue....

Thanks in advance

Alex

Sorry, never had one with an oil bath. The 2 inch hose should go down to the exhaust. It looks similar to a standard style air cleaner though.

You could always just replace it with a stock dry element filter assembly. Straight swap. I will trade you, not sure where you are though.

PM me if interested.

If your intake is stock you already have a 1" spacer under the carb. You could simply replace the aluminum spacer with some kind of insulating spacer, a phenolic for instance. If you have a taller than stock intake, and hood clearance is an issue, swapping to some kind of drop base open element type won't give you more room than the original. Also the oil bath type does as well as any, at cleaning the air.
Remember to get a ported spacer if you replace the OE one. The early 2100 carbs don't have a PVC port.

Id swap you as well. But as was said it should be the same as a paper filter setup as far as height goes. That 2in tube on the bottom went to a hot air stove that was usually on the exhuast manifold. Supplied warm air for cold weather startup.

Unless your going to off road and do off angle stuff the oil bath is a great/proven design that flat out works. Inconvenient at times yes but the filtration is great, even with nasty dirty oil.
