Removing Stock Air Filter Set Up?

My computer skills are lacking so I can't add to the post above. After many trips to the tune-up man I decided to modify my 72 stock air cleaner by replacing the section of the stock Bronco air cleaner with most of what was the equivalent section from an 86 Olds air cleaner.. My last try was to combine a 73 stock air cleaner by replacing the the Bronco section with a stock Olds Q-Jet air cleaner. It sounds like I made a mess but it turned out great. Air fuel mix was 13-1. runs great. The welder was awesome it looks great. I also added the cold air intake next to the headlight. I noticed a slight amount of missing paint on the front of the Olds air cleaner. I may have to use a stock Ford 4v Intake and take a picture of the whole setup. I wasn't smart enough to add to my existing pictures.

For those with the stock air filter, I'd be curious to see your setup. I've seen a couple different setups with the hoses reversed (different valve cover routing). Anyone running anything to the driver side or just using a filtered cap? Just curious....My 73 doesn't have the canister but everything else is still pretty original.

Don’t have pictures at the moment, but I’m sure someone will. They’re out there.

The PCV was probably the most notable change between 70 and 71. Early ones use the valve in the passenger side valve cover, where in 71 through 77 they swapped it over to the driver side.
There was the low profile oil filler cap with the PCV valve stuck in the middle. That was plumbed to the base of the carburetor. Usually on the back of the spacer between the carburetor and the intake manifold.
While the passenger side had the plastic elbow with the hose up to the air filter housing. That hose ran up to the elbow underneath the housing between the filter and the carburetor.

The canister hose, when present, would have gone to a straight fitting on the passenger side of the air filter part of the housing, just outside of the filter.
Your’73 would’ve originally come with a charcoal canister, so it seems that somebody removed it. Are you venting your tanks through the original tube under the truck, forward into the passenger side wheelwell area? Or somewhere else?

My 73 has the block with the EGR on the back of it (it's plugged). The setup on mine was the PCV on that passenger side from the elbow line off the filter. The carb port was to the driver side. And yes, tank is vented through original lines out under wheel well. Just trying to figure out the best setup I guess.

There is no best in this case. It’s what works for you now that things have been modified slightly from original.
But to clear up something, you said, the vacuum line from the base of the carburetor spacer to the driver’s side should actually have a PCV valve in it. It has to be metered, or it’s just a huge vacuum leak.
The one on the passenger side should just have a line between the air filter and the valve cover.
No valve should be there. Just an elbow fitting at each end and a hose in the middle.
