STUCK IN PARK WONT SHIFT

HI i have a C4 Automatic - 1970 - i recently did some upgrades, and i noticed some issues - sometimes not always but when i start the car and i try to shift out of Park - its stuck and it takes a couple of minutes of playing with it to get it to finally get into Drive or Reverse - not sure whats going on and not sure how to duplicate the problem - any thoughts on what is happening and what i need to do
