Finally got some time to work on the Bronco tonight
Some one told me you can't put tailgate cables on our machines
I beg to differ
Pictures to prove differently, cables from a 90 pickup, cost me 4 bucks at the UJerk yard. Typically I cant find the other sides tailgate bolt so I could not get it done. Took me about an hour to do this side.

Off of a 90 model what?

I was told that the ones off of a 90's Ranger would work, but when I went to the parts store to measure them before heading off to the wrecking yard, they were 2-3" longer than the stock stays.

If you've found the golden goose, let me know, I'd love to eliminate that rattle.;D

I got it off a blue Ford F-150 1990 1/2 ton 4x4 pickup. the cables are the right length and the holes I used are already on the Bronco. I had to alter the upper mount but that took 5 minutes on the bench grinder. Grind off the rattlestrap rivet and the left over hole is exactly the right size (7/16) fot the upper bolt. Insert bolt, nylock nut holds it in place, grind the sides so the tailgate guide bolts on correctly and voila the top is done. The lower bolt went into the lower hole of the tailgate latch guard. had to grind off to old strap mount lower mount point but that took 30 seconds.
cables with bolts cost me 3.49, tax included at the yard
two nylock nuts were 40 cents
four 3/8 washers (needed on tailgate mount) cost me a dime
total cost 4 bucks and 1 hour of my time
In the picture you will note that the cable is not tight. this is because my tailgate hits my bumper bolts of my new rear bumper and I have not "adjusted" the bolt heads yet.
Have lots of pictures of this, thinking of doing a tech article, what do you think? worth me doing the article?

If you take off the stock arm on the passenger side does the tail gate sit level it looks like the cable is a tad long?
Great idea though I have spent alot of time getting rid of rattles and that is one of the few left.

Tech article is always a good idea. Helps dummies like me that need pics for each step.

Do the tech article.

This would be a good project for my daughter to help me on.

Great idea. However I'm forever cheap so I wrapped the lower pc with 4-6 wraps (to build thickness) of electricians tape. Yeah, it shows when the tailgate is down, but it stopped the rattle for about 10 years! :)

To stop the rattles, just replace the rubber bumpers on the gate. 2 hold the gate tight, and 2 hold the arms tight.

Nice find TOFIC, I could go for a tech article. To throw in my .02 I would say buy a set new unless the junkyard peices look really really good because I have seen a ton of the cables snap from being rusted either on the ends or on the inside where you can't see them.
