Ok so I got tired of the column shifter and got the Tom's kit to convert to 3 on floor. Following all instructions (they kinda suck) and the 1-R shift lever (mounted on trans) hits the transmission tunnel brace. Everything is installed as the drawings show. Any suggestions?

maybe a picture? Which means you have to be a contributor sorry, but I can't imagine what the issue is without a photo

Tom's webpage on this kit has the following note:
"Fits 66-77 Ford Broncos with 289, 302 or 351w V8 Engines and Factory Manual 3-speed Transmission. NOTE: When installing this shift kit, the underside of body may require cutting a small notch for clearance."

Might be relevant?

extended inline die grinder might help,, harbour freight sells pretty cheap ones with 3 in cutting wheel, an belt file may help as well to clean up cuts

I think with the right grinder and a cutting wheel you could get up in there. Remove the linkage, take the shield off the grinder, and put on a new cutting wheel. Just gotta work the angles. Kind of had to do the same thing for the winters shifter cable and it took a bit of head scratching to figure it out.

I'm guessing by the look of it you do not have a body lift? Worse case scenario you could loosen all the body bolts and jack up that side of the body to create room.

Another thought here.... This is a great opportunity to put a 1" body lift on there and it would probably take care of your clearance issue (just based on the picture) without having to cut anything. 1" isn't too crazy and you might be surprised how much your old body mounts (assuming you haven't replace them) could be sagging.

This is the route I have chosen. 1" body lift and new bushings ordered.

So does that mean you ordered replacement body bushings AND separate 1 inch spacers? Or did you buy a 1 inch body lift that includes 1 inch taller body bushings?

Got it. Thanks.
It’s OK, either way, of course. But if the lift is done with spacers, like traditional lifts are, the new bushings are certainly called for. Especially in a “while you’re in there” kind of way. 😁
It can be either an easy job, or a really big hassle job. Hopefully yours is the former!

If my luck is the same as before it will go from a 2 hour job to 3 days real quickly

Lol.. Yup. If you are waiting on parts I'd suggest letting those body mounts bolts soak up a bit of oil to help with the process.

I wish….. I’m out of town for work. I travel for work so parts will be there when I get home.
