So, I'm looking at getting 4.56 gears, and I currently have 3.5 so for the D44 I am thinking of getting the thick cut gears that COR has listed so I don't have to get a new carrier... Any body ever done this? Good/Bad/Ugly? Can I still put an Aussie locker in it?

No one eh?

Well, I guess I'll give COR a call in the AM and see what they have to say!

Thick cut gears are fine. You may need to install the Aussie with the carrier out of the vehicle....because the cross-shaft may not clear the thick gear. Meaning you will have to have the ring gear off the carrier.

Other than that possibility, I'd say go for it.

X3. Have installed them on a couple of rigs with no problems.

I just installed some thick 4.11 on an oe bronco trac loc carrier. There is not anything wrong with them. As a matter of fact, the new Jeep JK uses thick gears as oe equipment on the Jeeps with the 4.11 option (dana 44 axles). This allows them to obviously have one common carrier for all gear ratios. The one thing you will probably have to do is enlarge the carrier holes for the ring gear bolts. If I remember correctly my thick ring gear used 7/16" bolts and the old gear had 3/8". One good new drill bit does the job.

Thanks guys! I got the rear end out last night, tonight I'm dropping the front axle and I'm going to get the gears on order soon. I'll probably order the Aussie at the same time so I'll just get it put in when I get the gears set up.
