Just picked up a '69 on craigslist. It had a little more interior body and frame rust than i wanted, but felt like it was a bargain still so it looks like ill try my first hand at body repair. Im going to need a lot of advice from yall on this.

I can handle the drivetrain and suspension. It has a running original 302 in it with 3 on the tree. Drives fine. If anyone wants that unit, make me an offer. SE VA/NE NC area.

Plan to overbuild for street/beach driving, with more capability. 5.9L Cummins w/47rh trans. Full width D50/Sterling 10.5" Superduty axles. This all came from my F150 that im scrapping. I plan to run in the 35-38" tire range. 5.38s with tightened limited slips. double triangulated rear, undecided on front, maybe 3 link. Hydro assist. Going to need some help trying to figure out how to flow enough fluid to brakes though.

This is going to be a very slow process as im starting to build a house and shop this winter also.

Nice project.
If your using an apple devise you are limited to one pic at a time. You can go to Tapatalk app it seems to work well if I want a bunch of pictures at a time.
Either way keep us posted.

Good deal. Ill check out tapatalk. Thanks

Oh and the previous owner said all vin#s are matching. I dont know much about the demand/value for that, but if its high, id rather just trade for a body/frame in better condition, and someone else get the all original stuff so were not needlessly separating something special. Not trying to trade up, just trying to do whats best for the truck.

I can't even imagine trying to shoe-horn a 6BT into one of these things. Have you looked at how tight the engine compartment is?

I wish you luck! And I look forward to your build.

Ill get it in there somehow. My F150 had a one piece cab/header panel, so i essentially had to cut it in half, put it in, then back together. I actually feel like this will be easier.

... I Hate to Rain on your Parade..
But. A. I worked at Dodge dealership for the years that 6BT Was a staple for daily repairs. ..That motor is very heavy.
It was so heavy that the 2 wheel drive truck would not drive out of a wet Bar Ditch .. I'm saying that when you pulled off the side of the road .. & the grass was wet, It's not able to pull out of the bar ditch if the front end was headed up hill just slightly.
.... Now. B. I Have the 4BT IN My 72 Bronco .. Its heavy but it'll work.. It just barely fit into my Bronco. & I worried for even 6 months that mine would also be to front heavy & I'd be stuck every time I got into the mud.
... But mine is works ..
... Now your 6BT is very long . I'm saying long enough that I believe it'll need to be pushed back into & under your dash.
.......................
..... Now if its a total trail rig then ok go far it.
..... I say Put that 6BT iNTO A 1953 1TON STUDEBAKER TRUCK. THAT'S WHAT I WANT.

The 6bt is about 640lbs heavier than the stock 302. I feel like with a full size spare, and some other goodies in the back, ill only be throwing a few hundred more pounds up front. Ill also put a larger fuel tank in the back which will help when full.

I dont know how your cooling system is set up, but going to an electric pusher fan saves a lot of space, and relocating the radiator, even more. It will get in there, i promise you that.

Well your a Big Boy get after it... As far as cooling don't worry about that .. I'M still running my stock 302 radiator in front of my 4BT & I DON'T EVEN RUN A FAN BLADE .
NOW I DO HAVE AN ELECTRIC FAN in front of my radiator . It's on a toggle switch. It should be on a Temp Sensitive Switch.
... Cummins make these that screw into the cumming blocks or heads . 170* 180* 190* & 210*. .
.. But In the summer after mine runs in the pasture Idling along for maybe 30 minutes I flip on the toggle switch on for about 2 minutes & it'll usually drop to about 120. So they are easy to cool.
... After I got mine in my Bronco I Honestly wish I'D HAVE FOUND SOMETHING ELSE TO PUT MY 4bt INTO . But Hind Sight is 20/20.

.... But all I need is one more project.

Yeah i had a pusher fan and stock f150 radiator in the other truck, and i could drive around town all day in the FL heat and the fan would never even turn on. Never ran over 190*. Pretty impressive

There unlimited room in a full size compared to an EB. My 351W based motor is almost touching the firewall (actually had to cut one bolt off due to contact), my fan blades are close to my belts and about 1/2" closer to the staggered four core radiator than I would prefer. There's not even enough room in front of the core support to put the cooler I want to install there.

Like I said, I wish you luck and will be following your thread.

Oh, and Pa PITT--my grandpa had a Studebaker pickup that I wanted to buy when I was ~15 for my first vehicle. I thought it was so cool. Was good that I didn't get it as my commute was 18 miles one way to school. So I drove a 460 3/4 ton.

Sounds like a cool project. Would love to see it done. It's clearly not ideal but it's different and it has been done before. There is a video on YouTube somewhere of a 6bt in an EB. The 4bt is highly overrated in my opinion so this should be fun to watch.

If you need advice on body work hit me or JAFO up on here. We've basically built our own tubs from the rust buckets we acquired!

I caught it an hour after posting. I had been checking craigslist 4 times a day for a couple months. I was supposed to get it this weekend but got rained out at work and wasnt going to risk being vultured. The last one i agreed to buy, the guy was on his way to deliver it to me, was late and said he had trailer troubles, and never answered again. He mentioned before people kept upping thermir offers. I hate people like that. Got pretty lucky on this one.

Awesome. Will do. Ill try to get the interior pics up soon, thats where i want to start. Prevent the rust from spreading further immediately. Floor pans im sure i can handle, the next big spot is the right rear where bed/tailgate/inner fender all converge. most of it is gone and wondering how to tackle it.
