A lot has happened since I went house shopping. Greeley was my first plan, but we found a house with a 46'x46' hanger, an additional heated single bay on one side of the hanger with roll up door, & a 2 car garage on the house. It's 3 miles east of Brighton in an established air park community. Dave will know it, its about 10 miles due north of DIA. So I'll have a home for the Maule plus some Bronco shop space. The house is solid but would benefit from some interior updates and landscaping.
I haven't got a chigger bite in 3 weeks!
that sounds sweet especially the no chigger part. I just did an inspection on a hanger today for hobby lobby exs

So, the shop is now built and I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Still trying to finish the inside and buy the tools and equipment I want, but at least the Broncos are out of the weather. Thanks again for all the great ideas. I wasn't able to take every piece of advice, due to budgetary constraints, but I did use a lot of your suggestions.

Really, really nice!! I like the raised roof section that lets in natural light without having to put in problem prone skylights!!

Love the gable ridge detail ... going to copy that in the next !

Thank you! I drew up the barn and they built it, I thought the widow's peak and the eyebrow would be a nice touch. Gonna put a 60" or 72" silver barn star on it too, but for now, I'm happy with it!

cool ...

my I see the signed and sealed truss engineering ?
they are 3-Ply / 96" O.C. ? 6/12 pitch ?

any and all gable end trusses should be always 24" O.C. studded / have a 2x4 vertical at max 24" O.C. for plywood sheeting ( see pic ) ! if you have plywood joints w.out truss member backing you must install 2x4 cats / blocking . ..sorry dont see that w. yours !

Running in a 1600 sq ft garage but the bigger you get the more stuff you suddenly need indoors.

Musts?
A lift. Once you have your own you will never go without again. As an added bonus you can store your rig up and away from potential damage.
Compressor outside so the neighbors know I am working but I can barely hear it. The lines are copper and the run 80 feet so the air is cooled by the time it gets to me and the moisture trap can get the humidity out.

My mistake:
Not enough lights. When we designed it we were assured it would be bright enough but with 20 foot ceilings (lift) I always seem to need my plug in lights. Really annoying and disappointing.

The engineers submitted the plans to Spokane County and they approved it. Plus, the inspectors were at the site quite a bit, making these guys fix things. I'll ask about it though. Thanks

I had a custome 40x60 Pole Barn built. 14ft side walls, OSB sheathing on the roof and walls. Insulated it, and put up OSB walls on the inside. All that's left is a self-contained heat/AC unit on a slab behind the building, ductwork in the rafters, and then a ceiling.

I literally provided my builder this drawing I made of what I wanted... and he built it.

I did 14 ft sidewalls, to accommodate a hoist. I also gave a garage door designated to it.

Epoxy floors are a must. Do them before you put anything in it. You can do it yourself. Bought the kits are Lowes, did it on my own. It's all in the prep work. Do it before you get greases and grime on the floor.

You can NEVER have too many outlets. I also went with LED lighting all the way around. From the lights under the widows peaks, to the goosenecks on the outside, to the 4 tubes inside. All LED.

Well hope you love your shop as much AS I do mine. Mine was 40x40 but is now 70 x40 .. Second side have 8 inches of concrete for a lift . 5 ft by 16ft . So the lift can be moved a bit if I'm not happy. Rest of my floors is 5 inches.
...................
......Every one has always said only have 1 bench .. But I have 4 ..
& I'm happy with my benches .. Yes I have to clean them off to use them. But I have one on each wall. I have in my new side a 4 by 8 bench .. It's set up for small repairs &I love this bench. I bought a new tool box for small tools . It's lighted bright. Great for carb work & wiring items.
...... Yes all the others benches are full of Junk .. But If I need to do a project .. I just clean a section & work that project out.
. & Guess what I'm ready to add another 30 ft on. Their never big enough.

Great Thread, and lots of terrific input. I am going to be building my new workshop this summer. Time to put pen to papers.
