Timing chain HELP

I forgot to put this spacer guard thing back on the lower timing chain sprocket before I secured the cover. How important is this? What’s it’s purpose? Thanks.

That’s the oil slinger. It keeps oil away from the crank shaft seal. It’s kind of a big deal.
