That is a very good size wheel for a 305x65x17 with a 2 1/2" lift. Would not stick out much at all.

The tires you want are 17s but do they (General) recommend a wheel that wide? Seems a 7-8" would be better suited.

I currently have 17x8" wheels with a 265x70x17 tire and its a good fit. But NO cut fenders at all with a 2 1/2" lift.

General Tire doesn't recommend a 9" wide wheel with any of their tires skinnier than a 265 with a similar profile. That said, while not ideal, I'm sure they would probably mount up just fine assuming you could get the beads seated...I've seen worse. Per the size/fitment charts on General's website, they recommend a 6.5" to 8" wheel width with a 245/65R17 if I'm not mistaken.

4.75" is a lot of backspace. 3.5" is more in line with what most people run on an 8" rim.
